The donation supports the development of a new $20+ million YMCA facility in Rome to support the local community with mixed-use activity spaces.

Rome, NY – August 14, 2024 – Kris-Tech Wire, an insulated copper wire and cable manufacturer based in Rome, NY, is donating $500,000 toward the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley’s new Rome, NY facility.

The Rome YMCA has been a critical part of the community since its founding in 1871, and its new project aims to expand on the many services it already provides. Unlike the current location, which has no room for expansion, the new site sits on several acres of land next to the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. It has plenty of space for the YMCA to add playgrounds, sports fields, and other outdoor amenities.

“This project began in 2018, with the city generously supporting the Y with a perfect location for our organization. The Y has been serving Rome and the surrounding communities for over 150 years and this opportunity allows us to continue our mission in a greater capacity,” said Hank Leo, CEO of the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley. “We are eternally grateful for the support from Kris-Tech Wire for this generous gift, which will support our construction project.”

Back on Track

According to Kris-Tech President and CEO Graham Brodock, the original donation announcement was supposed to occur several years ago when the YMCA project was first announced but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The check presentation now coincides with the YMCA’s planned groundbreaking later this year and Kris-Tech Wire’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Kris-Tech Wire Donates $500k to the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley“What good are production and profit without participation?” Brodock asked. “We’re honored to make this contribution to an organization and team whose values so closely match our own. The YMCA impacts and supports so many individuals and families in our community. Helping bring this new facility to life will breathe even more vitality into our vibrant community.”

Once completed, the facility will house a variety of spaces and features, including a natatorium, lap pool and teaching pool, sauna, steam room, creator space, STEAM-learning areas, full gymnasium, group exercise studios, and indoor track. Leo also noted the new facility will be space, cost, and energy efficient, with more opportunities for outdoor activities and better parking for its members.

“We lost over half of our membership base during the pandemic, and we were shut down for just about five months, putting the project on hold during our recovery,” Leo said. “We’ve been working hard to restart this wonderful campaign and get the project going. It is with gifts such as this one that we were able to continue our fundraising efforts.”
