This specification describes Tap Wire. It is used as a lead from primary phase conductors to equipment bushings. This is suitable for use in spacer cable, tree wire, weatherproof wire, and bare wire distribution lines rated for 5KV. The copper is coated with black, thick wall, Crosslinked Polyethylene, in addition to being sunlight resistant, provides excellent mechanical, abrasion, moisture, chemical and oil resistance.
ASTM B-1, B-3, B-33, B-8, and B-174, CSA C22.2 No.271-11
The single copper conductors shall be solid or stranded annealed or hard uncoated copper per ASTM requirements.
The conductor shall be insulated with black, sunlight resistant crosslinked polyethylene. The insulation shall be concentrically applied and the minimum at any point shall not be less than 90% of the specified average thickness.
The wire shall be identified by surface marking indicating the manufacturer and AWG size. Long length bulk reels are standard. Custom lengths are available by request.
